An Italian close-helmet
Basically circa 1570
With one-piece skull with prominent roped comb (minor hole) between a pair of narrow raised ribs, incised on the back the letters 'GP' (for Galleria Prima), pointed visor with central division and lifting peg on the right, fitting into the prow-shaped upper bevor (both associated) with small ornamental piercings on the right, bevor pivoted at the same points, the face-opening with sunken roped border, and pivot-hook fastening on the right, later single gorget-plate at front and rear, and domed iron lining rivets throughout
