With belled brass barrel engraved with foliage at the breech, iron tang, signed rounded lock engraved with foliage and stamped with a mark, a fox, walnut full stock (minor repairs) with raised apron at the barrel tang, engraved brass mounts including flat butt-plate retained by tacks, single brass ramrod-pipe, and later ramrod (some wear overall), London proof marks

Lot Essay

The fox mark is believed to be that of the Hudson's Bay Co., to which Abraham Jones (d. 1749) was viewer and gunmaker (see H.L. Blackmore, A Dictionary of London Gunmakers 1350-1850, p. 123)
