A dog-lock blunderbuss
circa 1670
With massive brass barrel with reinforcing ring at the shaped belled muzzle, the breech struck with barrelsmith's mark 'IF' and with stepped ramp at the rear, plain iron tang, flat bevelled lock retained by three dome-headed side-nails, walnut full stock with raised apron at the barrel tang, the butt cut with initials 'DWF' and with later silver plaque, iron trigger-guard, single brass ramrod-pipe, and brass-capped ramrod (iron parts with surface pitting, fore-stock with old repairs and worm holes, and now fitted with two later bands), London proof marks
