A flintlock blunderbuss
the lock by John Dafte, circa 1680
With belled two-stage brass barrel engraved with strawberry foliage, the breech section octagonal the polygonal, engraved with owner's (?) name 'Will Sell', and struck with barrelsmith's mark 'IS' (probably for John Silk, d. 1683), rounded lock with pointed tail and small dog catch, retaining traces of strawberry engraving and the signature, moulded full stock (minor chips, section replaced in front of the lock) with raised apron at the barrel tang, engraved brass mounts, scrolled side-plate, thin butt-plate retained by tacks, turned brass ramrod-pipes, iron trigger-guard, and original brass-capped ramrod, London proof marks
