With rebrowned signed twist octagonal sighted barrels, scroll engraved case-hardened patent breeches each with platinum plug, scroll engraved case-hardened tangs, signed scroll engraved case-hardened locks each with safety-catch, figured walnut half-stocks, chequered butts, engraved iron mounts including blued spur trigger-guards each with pineapple finial, blued set triggers, silver escutcheons, fore-end caps, and barrel-bolt escutcheons, brass-mounted ramrods (not a pair), and much original finish: in original lined and fitted brass-bound mahogany case with accessories (some associated), the lid with flush-fitting carrying handle, and trade label for circa 1827-31, London proof marks

Lot Essay

These pistols are probably one of the last products of Durs Egg's business, made between the death of the Duke of York in 1827 and his own death in 1831. His youngest son John used the same trade label from 1840, but changed the figure '1' on the Pall Mall address to a '4' in ink. The label in the case of these pistols appears unaltered.
