An unusual pair of 32-bore flintlock duelling pistols

With earlier three-stage Italian barrels each stamped 'Lazari Cominaz' at the breech and with platinum-lined touch-hole, signed locks each with roller, raised pan, and safety-catch also locking the steel (one safety-catch incomplete), ebonised full stocks (both defective) each carved with a shell in relief behind the barrel tang, chequered swelling flat-sided butts with a dot in the centre of each diamond, iron mounts, set triggers, and later wooden ramrods (iron parts acid cleaned and with some pitting)

Lot Essay

These pistols are built in the manner of pistols by John Twigg of about 1780. Der Neue Støckel records a P. Meyer in Brussels circa 1790-1800
