A LOUIS XVI ORMOLU-MOUNTED RED GRIOTTE MANTEL CLOCK
Late 18th early 19th Century
The glazed circular enamelled dial with Roman and Arabic chapters, inscribed Bruel à Paris, the movement with later anchor escapement, within a drum case hung with fruiting ivy and surmounted by a Maiden holding a tambourine, the whole carried by two naked youths and hung with foliate drapery, on a moulded rounded rectangular base, with beaded edge and centred by a fruiting vase flanked by chimerae issuing scrolling foliage and flowers, the sides with a mask flanked by scrolling foliage, on gadrooned feet, one beaded moulding lacking, no winder or pendulum
