A SET OF SEVEN DUTCH EMBOSSED AND POLYCHROME-DECORATED LEATHER PANELS
Late 17th Century
Each three-sectioned panel decorated with repetitive seascape reserves depicting Neptune on a horse-drawn vessel with a baroque building to the left, a mountainous island with a castle in the background and a ship leaving a harbour, alternating with panels depicting a town and landscape with sheep, each reserve within a scrolled and asymmetrical gilt border with acanthus sprays, grotesque masks and fruiting festoons, the seascapes with a coat-of-arms inscribed 'JACOB E*GIDEUS', the leather panels later backed and framed, variations in size and colour scheme, some panels slightly distressed, minor areas of retouching to decoration, possibly Scandinavian
