A GERMAN WALNUT, PARQUETRY AND MARQUETRY BUREAU-CABINET
Mid-18th Century
Decorated overall with simulated panelling and crossbanding, the shaped moulded cornice above a central section with a waved drawer and a door decorated with the Immaculate Conception and enclosing two later shelves, flanked to each side by five short drawers, the middle section with a shaped sloping fall-front enclosing a green material-covered writing-surface and a fitted interior of nine short drawers, the fall-front flanked at either side by two short drawers, the lower serpentine section with three long drawers and on later bun feet
15½ in. (128 cm.) wide; 84 in. (213.5 cm.) high; 29 in. (73.5 cm.) deep

Lot Essay

Paul Kestner was a Member of Honour of the Royal Society of Chemical Industry and of the American Chemical Society at the end of the 19th Century. The bureau formed part of the interior of his family castle in Alsace, near Mulhouse.
