The case in the form of a picture frame with layered mouldings of rope-twist, beaded and ray-engraving, stampedThos. Cole 1591 under bezel, the arched silvered dial with narrow Roman chapter ring having finely pierced blued steel hands, the dial centre with fine foliate engraving on a hatched ground, the shaped reserve below engraved with a spray of flowers and centered by a cartouche with central signature for the retailer C.F. Hancock Son & Co. London, the eight day movement of typical construction with the spring barrel within the main four pillar assembly and the simple lever escapement in a separate assembly above with plain steel balance and flat blued hairspring, the movement covered by a convex-moulded plate with escapement viewing shutter, hand-set aperture and winding lever with engraved arrowhead winding direction, the case backplate numbered 1591, the folding strut to the back with unusual wheel runner
