[1900], the first written on finding Lucien's note and very apologetic, 'Je suis désesperé d'avoir oublié dans la bousculade de la pluie de passer chez Baillehache' and enclosing a letter for him; and mentioning Mme de Beaulaincourt, 2 pages, 155 x 120 mm (cut from a larger leaf); the second a letter of introduction for Lucien to Baillehache at the Musée Moreau, mentioning that he is writing for the Beaux Arts, 4 pages, 8vo; the third, an apology, with excuses ('maladie de Flers, travail urgent etc etc') asking Lucien to drive him somewhere, one page, 8vo (blank integral leaf); the fourth asking if it is true that Madame Daudet is ill, complaining at Lucien's mysteriousness but hoping he has not upset him, 3 pages, 110 x 90 mm (cut from a larger leaf; together 10 pages, 8vo and smaller).

The reference to his articles for the Gazette des Beaux Arts dates the first two letters of 1900, when Proust published two articles on Ruskin in the Gazette. (4)
