NAPOLEON I (Emperor of France, 1804-1821). Letter signed ('Bonaparte') to the Minister of War [General Berthier], St. Cloud, 'le 20 frimaire an 11' [11 December 1802], saying that as the 54th [Brigade] which is in Holland is only 1600 men strong, Berthier is to order General Victor to take only two battalions each of 750, leaving the officers of the 3rd Battalion in France, to carry on with conscription and recruitment, but 'Comme cet ordre est un peu tardif si ces troupes étaient embarquées ... le Gouvernement le laisse maitre de faire ce qu'il jugera convenable', one page, 4to, vignette heading of 'Bonaparte 1er Consul' (traces of tape and small tear in inner margin).
