MAHLER, Gustav (1860-1911). Dritte Symphonie (Eroica) von L. van Beethoven. Op.55. Leipzig: Breitkopf & Härtel, plate no. Part.B.7, WITH EXTENSIVE ADDITIONS AND MARKINGS BY MAHLER THROUGHOUT in bright red ink, bearing the composer's stamp 'Gustav Mahler, Wien', 2°, contemporary cloth backed boards.
THIS IS MAHLER'S OWN COPY OF BEETHOVEN'S THIRD SYMPHONY AND THEREFORE OF THE GREATEST IMPORTANCE.
Mahler's annotations comprise extensive revisions throughout the symphony. new brass and string parts on pp.15,16 & 17
removal of the bassoons on p.21
doubling the trumpets on pp.23-24
completely new woodwind and brass parts on p.27
the first violin and 'celli doubling the seconds and basses on p.29
