Only a very few copies of this work were printed by Durand, Schoenwerk & Cie in Paris and G.Lewy in Vienna. It is possible that these copies were also proofs because it seems that no commercial publication was undertaken. Composed in 1867, the opera had a libretto by Beauquier, based on Schiller's play Fiesko. It was accepted by the Paris Opera and Brussels but was never produced. Lalo eventually decided to publish the work himself and only fragments of it were performed.
These proofs contain extensive autograph corrections throughout the whole work.
