(Occasional light spotting.) Contemporary blind stamped vellum, spine in eight compartments with raised bands, red morocco lettering-piece in one, the uppermost with onlaid red morocco lozenge gilt-tooled with elephant crest. Provenance: Sir Andrew Fountaine (binding).
A FINE COPY OF THE FIRST EDITION of this record of the cabinet of coins, medals, gems, and natural-history specimens at the Bibliothèque Ste. Geneviève, compiled by the curator of the museum. The Bibliothèque was established by Cardinal de Rochefoucauld in 1642, became national property in 1791, was rebuilt in the 19th century and finally was dispersed. Nissen ZBI 2861; Tchémerzine p.143.
