2° (430 x 280mm). Title with engraved vignette, 'Avertissement' leaf, privilege leaf, 117 pp text, 2pp contents. Engraved frontispiece, title vignette, 10 double-page plates, 44 full-page illustrations, 33 head- or tailpieces, 11 initials. (Small tear to outer blank margin of Dd1, occasional light browning.) Contemporary English calf gilt, red morocco lozenge gilt-tooled with elephant crest onlaid to uppermost compartment of spine, by Christopher Chapman (spine chipped at head, small split to upper joint). Provenance: Sir Andrew Fountaine (binding).

A fine copy of a work that was first issued in 1650; this edition includes four more illustrations than the original. The plates and full-page illustrations are after Charles Errard. The binding features rolls 2 and 3 in plate 13 of Nixon's article on "Harleian bindings" in Studies in the Book Trade in Honour of Graham Pollard. Fowler 129; Cicognara 510; cf.
