VENDRAMINI, Giovanni. Stanze, et capitolo. Milan: G.A. Borgia, July 1553.

4° (196 x 141mm). Large woodcut device of the Accademia dei Fenici on title and penultimate pages. (Title-page very lightly spotted.) Modern quarter vellum. Provenance: Guiseppe Martini (pencilled note).

THE RARE FIRST EDITION of this handsome and well-printed volume of poetry by a Venetian nobleman who, after a military career in the imperial army under Ferrante Gonzaga, by whom he was held in high esteem, settled down in Milan. His poetry appears in various sixteenth-century collections of verse, but this seems to be his only printed book, although a manuscript exists of his treatise on duelling on which he was known to be working in 1573. In 1550 he founded the Accademia dei Fenici. A good, fresh copy. Fontanini/Zeno I, 375; Bologna, Le cinquecentine della Biblioteca Trivulziana, I, 486.
