Lot Essay

Maze visited New York in 1952; he was fascinated by the skyscrapers and bridges of the city and 'the importance of geometry and linear structure in his pictures of New York is particularly interesting, and gives these paintings a modern look, unique in his work'.
(A. Singer, Paul Maze The Lost Impressionist, London, 1983, p.118).
