Andrew Causey (op. cit., p.286) remarks that the finished painting Landscape from a Dream 'is certainly Nash's most successful completely new picture in the period immediately following the International Surrealist Exhibition [held at the New Burlington Galleries, London in 1936]. It is effective partly because of the luminious brilliance of the colour, which is striking in the context of Nash's painting at this time; this picture more than any other prefigures the colour brilliance of the final phase of Nash's oil painting from 1943'.
