Lot Essay

Yvette Guilbert commissioned this plaque from Toulouse-Lautrec, who sent the design to the potter Emile Muller at Ivry. The artist coloured each plaque himself before it was fired and no two examples are identical. When Toulouse-Lautrec submitted the design to Yvette Guilbert, she added the inscription which appears at lower left. Approximately ten examples were made.
