Lot Essay

Dr. Robert F. Loeb was both a friend and the personal physician of Albert Lasker, the noted businessman, philanthropist and collector. In 1948, wanting to thank Dr. Loeb for his friendship and services, for which he was never charged, and knowing that Dr. Loeb appreciated Dali's work, Albert Lasker asked him what his favourite country was. To the answer of Italy, Lasker decided to commission Dali to go there and paint these four pictures which he then gave to Dr. Loeb a year later (see also the three following lots).

Robert Descharnes has kindly confirmed the authenticity of this work.
