Lot Essay

Although some people tend to rate the work of Fontana by the number of cuts sliced through a canvas, it is more often his truly minimal pictures, limited to a single razor-sharp rip slit vertically through the monochrome picture plane, which convey in the most direct and poignant manner the spiritual and cosmic message of his ideology.

To meditate upon the present Concetto Spaziale, Attesa is to tap into the elemental energies of the universe as it recedes from the two-dimensional flatness of the white canvas. It is almost as if one is looking through peep-hole from our known world into the blackness of uncharted infinity.
