The strongly modelled faces of these four heads, with their long noses, prominent brows and slightly protruding jawlines, are reminiscent of work executed in Antwerp in the middle of the 16th century, particularly the known work of the so-called Master of the Prodigal Son. Although executed on a very different scale, the extant reliefs attributed to this master, thought to date from the the late 1540s to the early 1560s, display the same distinctive facial types.
