A Late Hellenistic bronze statue of Aphrodite
2nd-1st Century B.C., from Alexandria
The goddess standing with right arm raised towards her face, her right foot raised on tiptoe, with leg bent forwards at the knee. She wears a diadem chased with myrtle berries, her hair tied back in a chignon and fine curls escaping around her face and neck, two longer curls falling over her shoulder. Her eyes inlaid, soft 'Venus wrinkles' adorn her neck, her feet showing careful detail on the toes and nails, left ankle repaired, mounted
