A FINE RELIEF-CARVED CELADON JADE BOULDER
18th century
The large pebble-shaped stone carved with the figure of Laozi with his water buffalo and attendant meeting a scholar and attendant beside pine trees at a gate of the Great Wall, all set among overhanging rocks, the reverse with pine branches and lingzhi issuing from rockwork, the stone of a smooth pale celadon tone with minor white inclusions and extensively covered with a polished russet skin

See also the fine pebble-shaped upright boulder group carved with figures and pine in a rocky landscape, from the Helen and Peter Collection, exhibited at the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Chinese Jade Carvings, 1983, Catalogue, no.237, which is also dated to the 18th Century.
