A PAIR OF GILT-BRONZE 'ELEPHANT' CANDLE-HOLDERS
18th century
Each cast standing foursquare issuing a tall flaring quatrefoil candle-holder from its back, with tusked heads turned and trunks and long tails curled to the left and right, wearing an elaborate beaded and tasselled bridle and straps securing a long saddle-blanket incised with scrolling lotus below a cloud-collar enclosing the candle-holder similarly beaded and with two beast-head masks below a lotus meander in relief at the neck, undersides with some restoration and re-gilding
