Enamelled and gilt with a central coat-of-arms and coronet reserved on a dense floral scroll white ground, within an iron-red and gilt spear-head band at the well, the rim with a continuous band of architectural panels separated by peacocks, minute rim frits, foot rim with one drill hole

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Van Schoonhoven, of Leyden and Rotterdam, and Cremers, of Groningen. See J. B. Rietstap, op.cit., vol.II, p.726. The border decoration is taken from Viennese Du Paquier porcelain. Compare with a plate with these arms in the Royal Museums of Art and History, Brussels, included in the 1989/90 Exhibition, Catalogue, no.99, pp.250 and 251; and another illustrated by J.R.T. Leite, op.cit., cat.50, p.216.
