cover 1840 (May 8) entire letter from W. Ball in Hampstead to "Rt. Honble. The Chanr. of Exchequer, Downing Street" enclosing two entires addressed to the sender, bearing 1d. plate II, MB and QH respectively, and both clearly showing 7 May 1840 backstamps, the adhesives are only just adhering to the entires and the covering letter expresses concern that they could be easily removed and used more than once (the writer appears not to have appreciated that the Maltese Cross cancellation was designed to prevent this); the entire bearing MB is almost torn through vertically, otherwise fine
