Lot Essay
After studying painting in Kharkov Levi moved to Terioki in Finland, where he was introduced to Repin in 1918 by I.I.Brodskii. He soon began organising exhibitions and selling pictures on Repin's behalf. From 1919 to 1930, he organised more than fifty exhibitions dedicated to Repin, in Helsinki, Amsterdam, Hamburg, Viborg, Prague, Oslo and Copenhagen. In these same exhibitions he showed his own work and paintings by Repin's son, Iuri.
