Lot Essay

Executed in 1880.

The present picture was only known, until recently, from a black and white photograph published in 1912 and it is considered a study for the painting entitled 'Autumn'. The Hunter (1880) which is now in the Kalinin Art Museum. Having started to exhibit only in 1877, the present painting can be considered as the early work by the artist to appear on the market for the last thirty years.
