maker's mark of Nicholls & Plincke, workmasters initials PK, St Petersburg, circa 1886
Rectangular, the caviar pot formed as a sturgeon lying on top of and bound in embroidered cloth, with glass lining, the stand engraved in the centre with a presentation inscripton, the borders with two crowned cyphers KRG and TB and dates 1861 and 1886, with foliate scrolls at the angles, fully marked

Lot Essay

The inscription reads 'Minne av Jane Mexmontan och Constance af Forfelles'.
Nicholls & Plincke was a silversmith firm in St. Petersburg from 1829
to 1898. Plincke had already his workshop in 1815 and in 1829 he went into business with an Englishman, Charles Nicholls.
Called the Magasin Anglais, they were the most fashionable silver shop in St. Petersburg until 1880.
