Lot Essay

Born in Liverpool where he studied at the Academy under John Finnie, Kirkpatrick continued his studies at the Acadmie Julian in Paris under Bouguereau and Gabriel Ferrier. Many of his scenes of country pursuits parallel the French interest in rural life at this date, although this example is undoubtedly more idealised. Kirkpatrick exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1898 and 1928, and two of his works are in the Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool.
