Lot Essay

Braemar stands close to Queen Victoria's Highland retreat at Balmoral, and it is tempting to speculate that it might have been this association that drew Birket Foster to the locality. He exhibited several views of Braemar at the Royal Society of Painters in Watercolours in 1892 and 1893.
