A German parcel-gilt ewer and basin
maker's mark of George Roth and Co., Hanau, late 19th century
The pear-shaped ewer on spreading circular foot and with scroll handle with mask terminal, the hinged spool-shaped cover with bifurcated scroll thumbpiece and finial formed as a pelican in its piety, the body chased with winged cherubim and scenes from the life of Christ, within strapwork, foliage and floral swags, the circular dish with similar scenes and decoration, the centre with a boss depicting the Resurrection, marked on ewer foot and dish rim
