Lot Essay

Richard and Hutton Wood were the first and third sons of Richard Wood (1712-1797) (for whom see the previous lot) and his wife Elizabeth, daughter of Hutton Perkins, of Mill Hill, Middlesex. Richard Wood (d.1815) inherited Hollin Hall from his father and married his first cousin Delia, only daughter of Thomas Schaak, of Askham Bryan, near York, and his aunt, Mary Wood, in 1774. The portrait of Richard Wood has traditionally been identified as by Henry Walton.
