Portrait of Colonel the Hon. Henry Lowther (1790-1867), three-quarter-length, in the uniform of the Tenth Hussars

The sitter was the second son of William, 1st Earl of Lonsdale, and the father of Henry, 3rd Earl of Lonsdale: he served as M.P for Westmorland and was Colonel of the Cumberland Militia.

Lawrence's prototype (private collection) was exhibited at the Royal Academy in 1818, no. 514.
