Lot Essay

The present work is based on the righthand figure in the Three Cherubs in the Galleria Pallavicini, Rome, Inv. no. 323. In the catalogue of the paintings in this collection, F. Zeri refers to a further painting, of two cherubs, in the Galeria Spada, Rome, Inv. no. 378. (F. Zeri, La Galleria Pallavicini in Rome, 1959, p. 188, no. 323). Both these works are by an as yet unidentified Neapolitan artist of the seventeenth century.
