Lot Essay

The pen-work, with the hatching and the repeated contour line, is comparable with that of a drawing of a putto in the Albertina (V. Birke and J. Kertész, Die Italienischen Zeichnungen der Albertina, Vienna, 1994, II, Inv. 2115, illustrated), and drawings of a similar subject at Windsor Castle, R. Wittkower, The Drawings of the Carracci in the Collection of Her Majesty the Queen at Windsor Castle, London, 1952, nos. 134-6, figs. 18-9.
