Related to the putti carrying the column in the fresco by Pietro da Cortona dated 1633 on the ceiling of the sacristy of Santa Maria in Vallicella, J. Merz, Pietro da Cortona, Der Aufstieg zum führenden Maler im barocken Rom, Tübingen, 1991, p. 223, fig. 368.
Philip Pouncey and Walter Vitzthum endorsed the attribution to Pietro da Cortona. Dr. Jörg Merz, however, op. cit., attributed the present sheet to Ciro Ferri.
