Lot Essay

The sheet comes from an album of more than 125 drawings made between 1776 and 1779 of scenes of the life of Saint Anthony. Another sheet presumably from this album was sold at Christie's, London, 11 April 1978, lot 78, illustrated.
A number of drawings of the same theme were sold in the Beauchamp sale at Christie's, London, 15 June 1965, lots 19-38, illustrated.
