Lot Essay

A watercolor of the same composition, though reversed, is in the Musée Carnavalet, Paris, P. Quarre, Un paysagiste dijonnais du XVIIIe siècle, J.-B. Lallemand, Palais des Etats de Bourgogne, Dijon, 1954, no. 83, pl. XV. The composition in the Musée Carnavalet was probably reversed in preparation for a print. The figures in the foreground of the two compositions differ.
