Lot Essay

Boissellier studied with the Italian decorator Cieti and Regnault. He won the Prix de Rome in 1805 but as the stay in Rome was only awarded every other year, he had to compete the next year and won again. He died in Rome in 1811.
The present drawing was executed the year Boissellier went to Rome.
