TWO HISPANO-MORESQUE COPPER-LUSTRE DISHES
LAST HALF OF THE 16TH CENTURY

One a charger, lustred in copper and enriched in blue, the ewer emplacement with a five-petal flower, the well with foliate sprays, the rim moulded with two large blue leaves, a copper leaf and three spiral gadroons on an arabesque ground, the underside lustred in copper with a Catherine Wheel, concentric bands and a band of stylized leaves, wear and minor chips to well, rim and footrims, loss of glaze to center of boss, the border drilled for hanging, 18½in. (47cm.) diam.; the second a shallow bowl, lustred in copper with a large feather on a ground of stylized carnations and other flowers, the border with alternate panels of stylized scrolls within line bands, the underside undecorated, cracked from 7 o'clock into the center and stapled, three staples removed, wear, rim chips, 15¾in. (40cm.) diam. (2)
