The present work can be related to a group of drawings which Ferri is thought to have executed for a large series of engravings illustrating the life of Saint Theresa, produced by Guillaume Chasteau in the 1650's. Although the prints do not name the draughtsman, there are related drawings by Ferri in the British Museum, London, Holkham Hall, the Musée du Louvre, Paris, and the Uffizi, Florence.
Ferri continued to address this subject during the mid 1660s.
