This painting repeats the composition of Adriaen Brouwer's original, which is either the version in the Dulwich College Picture Gallery (Knuttle op. cit., p. 60, fig. 34) or in the Duke D'Arenberg Collection (see W. von Bode, Adriaen Brouwer, 1924, fig. 3).
