MAKER'S MARK OF CHARLES LE ROUX, NEW YORK, CIRCA 1730

Cylindrical, the molded base with applied band of cut-card leaves, with molded rim, the scroll handle applied with a beaded rattail and terminating with an applied cherub's mask, the flat domed cover with crenellated rim and corkscrew thumbpiece, marked near rim on either side of handle join

The initials on the base I(?) over PM are by tradition those of Peter and Maria Van Cortlandt Jay, married in 1728.
