The rectangular band veneered top with a rectangular hinged front opening to reveal the strings and shaped pierced sound panels centering a gilt decorated panel inscribed DUBOIS & STODART/Manufacturers,/No. 16, Broadway/NEW YORK.over ivory and ebony keys flanked by veneered recessed panels edged in egg-and-dart molding all over an egg-and-dart molded frieze, on four tapering acanthus-carved reeded and ring-turned legs headed by ionic capitals, with socket castors

Lot Essay

In 1819, Robert Stodart arrived in New York from England where he came from a family of prominent piano makers. Two years later he joined with William Dubois to create William Dubois and Robert Stodart, Manufacturers. This firm participated in the first Exhibition held in New York in 1830 at Castle Garden.
