This chair is similar to a suite of seat furniture delivered by Jacob-Desmalter in 1809 for the Salon de L'Impèratrice at Compiègne, illustrated in S. Grandjean, Empire Furniture 1800 to 1825, 1966, p.100, no. 49A. Other suites of furniture of this model by Jacob-Desmalter include one supplied to Prince Louis Bonaparte for his apartments in the Tuileries (see F. de Salverte, Les Ébénistes du XVIII Siècle, 1962, p.168, pl. LXXX) and a suite delivered in 1808 for the grand salon de L'Impératrice at the Tuileries. A similar chair was sold in these Rooms 28 September 1995, lot 233.
