AN OPAQUE WHITE OVERLAY AND BLUE-GROUND GLASS VASE

The high-shouldered, tapering body cut through the opaque white overlay to the transparent blue ground with a design of birds perched in flowering branches of peony and prunus rising from the petal lappet band encircling the foot, with an ornamental rock at the base of the peony and begonia at the base of the prunus

A globular bottle vase similarly carved with opaque white birds amidst foliage on a deep blue ground, dated to the 18th century, was included in the exhibition, Chinese Jewellery and Glass, Spink & Son Ltd., 1989, Catalogue, no. 85.
