The box and cover well carved as a barbed quatrefoil cushion raised on a shallow foot of conforming outline, the top incised with two couplets of an 'imperially composed', seven-character-line poem beside a gnarled prunus tree with nandina sprouting from the rocks at its base, within an incised line border, with bands of key-fret incised around the rims of the cover and the box, the stone of deep rich blue color suffused with gold flecks
